Discover the village of Saint-Andiol between Luberon and Alpilles

Saint Andiol is a small, typically Provencal village nestled along the Durance River between the Luberon and Alpilles mountains. Strategically located on Route Nationale 7 (now called RD7n), a stone's throw from the A7 freeway and on the border between the Bouches du Rhône and Vaucluse departments, Saint Andiol is an excellent base for exploring the entire region and visiting a number of interesting tourist sites: the excavations at Glanum and the Antiques Museum at St Rémy, the citadel of Les Baux de Provence, Tarascon castle, the museums of Arles and Salon, Frigolet abbey, Cavaillon market, the villages of the Luberon and the Avignon festival

Saint Andiol castle and its park

Right next to the church, you'll find the castel of Saint Andiol. The castle was built between the late 14th and early 15th centuries. In the 17th century, Nicolas de Varadier had the medieval castle restored in Renaissance style. Today, the castle has been converted into a sports and cultural center. You'll come across a few children running up the stairs or playing in the courtyard. A children's playground and a number of picnic tables have been set up in the park to ensure you have a pleasant time. Saint-Andiolais and tourists alike love to stroll here.

Sainte-Croix chapel

Don't miss the Sainte Croix chapel in the cemetery. The Sainte Croix chapel is also a listed building. It is in pure Romanesque style. Erected in the 9th century, it is one of the oldest chapels in Provence. From May 3, 1588, the Confrérie des Pénitents Noirs (Black Penitent Brotherhood) made it the seat of their meetings. They took part in processions and major religious festivals with the villagers until the early 20th century.
